"Make-up"....Look timeless, not dated.

Make-up application colour and product choice are just three reasons why you should consider hiring a professional make-up artist for your wedding day. Professional make-up application will make your make-up last well into the night and early hours and even the next day (even on the most wearable skin!).I would advise against using anything too creamy on the face as these products can "move" or "crease" on the skin. Cream eye-shadow especially can crease and is not long wearing. Stick to light liquid and powder formulations that sit lightly on the skin and do not "move" or "crease".Some stay on lipsticks can have a drying effect on the skin and just don't give the lips a soft plump look. I prefer applying lip liner the old fashioned way, first using a flesh coloured lip pencil all over the lips and then a sheer or lustre lipstick over the top. This creates a great base and really does make lipstick stay on longer and you won't be left with the drying effect of a stay on lipstick.Shine or dewiness on the skin never looks good in these types of photographs so try and avoid it. Luminous foundations and powders however do, and they will create a really beautiful youthful glow to the skin. If you have an oily T-Zone use an oil-control lotion under your foundation. Frosted lipstick and too-shimmery eye-shadow will also appear too shiny in photographs as they reflect light. Lips shouldn't be too dark either. Remember if you already naturally have a lot of colour in your lips choose just one shade lighter.

False Lashes

These really don't have to look "drag queen". Strategically placing a few individual lashes on the outer corner and even on the bottom lashes can really make your eye's look bigger and brighter without anyone knowing you are wearing them. This is a celebrity secret. Some even have semi permanent eye-lash extentions which can look amazing too. Having your eye-lashes dyed will also increase and maximise this effect. You can also buy little half lashes that you apply to just the outer corners. This will widen your eye's and is also a favourite with celebrities. The very full length basic long black lashes can sometimes look too much for a wedding, but again it all depends on the individual. I chose to wear the half lashes for my wedding as this enhanced the Audry Hepburn style eye-liner that I chose and gave me a more wide-eyed look. It really depends on your eye-shape and style of make-up but there are lashes out there to suit all and they can look really great on your wedding day, especially making your eyes stand out beautifully in photographs.

Mascara

People always ask about waterproof mascara. My advice is, if you have found a mascara that you love and really want to use on the day just buy a mascara sealer and apply this over your favourite mascara. This will seal your mascara and make it waterproof. This really is a great product, even if you don’t cry on the day it will prevent smudging and your eyes will look smudge free all day, and night!

Creating an Image

To create the perfect look it is vital that your hairstylist and make-up artist understands everything to do with your day, from the ceremony right up until the evening celebrations. It is important to know every detail from the venue, decorations, size, flowers, reception, and most importantly your wedding gown. This will paint the perfect picture and enable your stylist to create the perfect look for you, your style and personality. It's so important that you look and feel like you, and not an interpretation of how someone else thinks you should look. When I first come to see you for your trial, if you have a certain style icon or celebrity that you admire pull out some images from magazines so that you can show them. This is a great way of understanding which kind of style you like.Everyone’s face is different and what suits one person may not another but you can certainly adapt looks to suit all.

Hair

Getting your hair style right is vital and it is well worth trying out a few different looks and taking pictures of them so you can see how they look in a photograph. Obviously if you are wearing a tiara and any kind of veil you will need to work around these. Veils look great with hair-up and hair half-up/half-down as this creates clean angles around your face. Remember you can always have two looks, a more formal one for the actual ceremony and another more relaxed look for the reception. This is also great if you have long hair and are undecided on wearing it up or down.Work around what suits you first and then think about your dress and style of wedding.
